Traditional techniques of geological surveying do not always reveal in detail the subsurface structure. Seismic reflection profiling methods have been refined, and these are of particular importance to the oil industry. The application of these methods and other basin analysis techniques have greatly enhanced the knowledge of the structure and evolution of the land and the adjoining continental shelf - and significantly increased the economic resources of the nation.
This Memoir is the third in a series of subsurface memoirs relating to Upper Palaeozoic basins and forms a sequel to the adjacent Craven Basin.
The book provides a summary and distillation of information obtained during the search for and extraction of the mineral and energy resources of the region. It serves as a reference source when and if economic circumstances change or when new exploration models are developed which once again result in new interest in the region by the exploration industry.
