This is an advisory report on the requirement for radon protective measures in new buildings, conversions and extensions to existing buildings. The report also indicates whether a site is located within a radon Affected Area.
This report is based on the joint BGS - UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) radon potential data and complies with "BR211 Radon: Guidance on protective measures for new buildings (2023 edition)", which also provides guidance on what to do if the result indicates that protective measures are required.
Definitive guidance on the requirement for protection from radon gas in all new buildings, extensions and conversions in Scotland is available in Section 3 - Environment of the most recent Scottish Government Domestic and Non-Domestic Technical Handbooks.
- If you know the postcode and full address of the property (for example if you are building an extension to an existing home with a footprint of 25 m or less) you can obtain your radon report from the UKradon website for £3.90 inc. VAT
- A BGS Radon Report is required for larger buildings, groups of buildings or sites
Please consult your Buildings Inspector, who will advise on which report is most appropriate.
Notes:
A revised radon map and new dataset was released on 1st December 2022. The Radon: England and Wales, and Radon: Scotland reports are now based on the new radon dataset. The map and dataset for Northern Ireland is not changing so addresses in Northern Ireland are not affected.
This report is only available for locations in Scotland, we provide a specific Radon Georeport for England and Wales.
Information on Radon for large sites in Northern Ireland can be obtained by contacting the Geological Survey of Northern Ireland.
