Sheet Explanations are printed A5 booklets and are available either singly, or as a pack together with the relevant 1:50 000 scale map, where this map is available. Beaconsfield lies to the west of London, mainly in Buckinghamshire but includes part of Hertfordshire. The area is a busy commuter belt but many places retain the rural character of the Chilterns. The landscape of rounded hills is typical of the chalk downlands and many of the hills are capped with Quaternary Chalk-with-flints. The Chalk is the oldest rock to outcrop in the district.
